Hi friends,
We, at Calcutta Walks, are in the process of developing a tourist map of our city, something that has not been attempted very well yet.
Besides a host of information we also would love to add quirky and interesting things that are unique to the city. Things like:
- Play Chess with the locals under the Gariahat flyover in the evenings.
- Laugh out loud (lol) with senior citizens every morning at Rabindra Sarovar.
- Chant with local priests at Hatibagan Tol (training school for hindu priests).
- Learn to correctly throw the fishing net with the fishermen at East Calcutta Wetlands.
- Cross the river on public ferries and have some wonderful spiced puffed rice while watching the sun set.
- Play football every morning with local boys at the maidan and find out their favourite team between East Bengal and Mohum Bagan.
…. and such.
Your suggestions on different aspects of a map in relation to an international visitor will be most welcome.
If you like we can meet up and discuss this over chai.
Thanks and regards.
How about mapping the not various food joints across the city? Not the usual famous restaurants type. Golbari for example! Balwant Singh dhaaba, Sharma chai, and others.
Yup. That’s on the cards.
