The Confluence of Cultures

Explorer Ritesh took Sue down the walk he’s made his own — he calls it The Confluence of Cultures. It explores the northern parts of Central Cal, i.e. areas around Dalhousie, Bow Barracks, Brabourne Road, Ezra Street etc.

Sue had to take a bus, since the Metro doesn’t work on Sunday mornings. She was pleasantly surprised to find out that taking a bus to this part of the city is a fairly simple matter after all and the journey takes less than 45 min from south Cal.

The duo walked around Bow Barracks, all decorated for Christmas, and then on to Chinatown. It was too late for a proper Chinese breakfast but Sue did manage to catch some great tuna and pork momos.

The rest of the walk was a whirl of dharmashalas and churches and temples and mosques and unexpected surprises and people — friendly folks and stern ones, unhelpful passersby and welcoming ones. Amongst all this, Balloongali (Balloon Lane) was a delightful sight.

The Armenian Church off Brabourne Road was looking very pretty since it was in the process of being decorated for the wedding of the caretaker’s daughter. The gentleman in question spent some time with the explorers, telling them about the history of the church and of his community.
